Key Laboratory of Drug Addiction and Rehabilitation of the National Health Commissionin Kunming Medical University isthe key laboratory jointly built by the National Health Commission and Provincial Government in July 2019. Under the strong leadership of Director Professor Wang Kunhua, the key laboratory hasachieved sound development.
According to The Administration Measures of the Key Laboratories of the National Health Commission (No. 32 G.W.K.J.F〔2018〕), approved by Kunming Medical University, the key laboratory established the Academic Committee. The Academic Committee of the laboratory is supervised by 15 domestic experts in related fields, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Drug Rehabilitation Consultants of the World Health Organization, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and Yangtze River Scholars.
Standing on the height of serving national health major development strategy, the key laboratory integrates advantageous resources of the public security, judiciary and health system. In the studies of the laboratory, three aspects are focused: physiological and pathological needs of the common comorbidities involved in drug dependence and abstinence; key issues of drug addiction and rehabilitation as well as prevention and treatment of common comorbiditiesy in drug addicts; and functional maintenance and health promotion in drug users, which aims at improving the success rate of drug rehabilitation, reducing the relapse rate, reducing the incidence of related comorbidity and mortality and improveing the quality of life.
Since establishment, the key laboratory has applied to undertake a number of national and provincial research projects. To improve the academic level, to promote multidisciplinary and external cooperation, Professor Wang Kunhua has invited experts from different fields at home and abroad to conduct academic discussions and make reports, emphasized on academic cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad. Besides, the key laboratory constantly improving the level of academic research in his field, and focuses on strengthening clinical translational medicine research, seting up independent and open subjects and cultivating young talents forlower-level medical research units. Moreover, the key laboratory strengthens and encourages the cooperation and exchanges between outstanding researchers of supporting institutions and the laboratory.
The key laboratory constructs an integrated innovation research system, which is combination of clinical, basic and information technology, at the same time, integration of public security, judiciary and health services related institutions, building an open platform for drugaddiction andrehabilitation. Committed to promote the progress of drug use disorders dependent treatment and treatment ofitscommon comorbidity. Finally, to realize benefiting Yunnan province and its neighboring countries and regions, making Yunnan province an important frontier facing South and Southeast Asia in the major transnational strategy of Belt and Road. The key laboratory is building itself into a Key Laboratory of the National Health Commission with drug addiction and rehabilitation as its core research direction.
