Biomedical Engineering Research Institute of Kunming Medical University was officially established in December 2021. At present, the institute has more than 10 research teams combining the research departments of Biomedical Engineering Research Center and Molecular Clinical Medicine Research Institute. Based on the rich clinical resources of Kunming Medical University, the institute conducts mechanism study on major human diseases such as tumors, nervous system diseases, infectious diseases, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The institute also screens and identifies markers for disease diagnosis and new targets for therapy, and develops drugs and methods for disease treatment. The institute aims to become the innovation base for biomedical clinical and basic research and high-level talent training base of Kunming Medical University. Its goal is to become an influential and distinctive biomedical research institute in China, contributing to people's health and biomedical industry in China.
1. Research Directions
Centering on disease mechanism analysis, the research institute focuses on three main research directions: 1. Disease molecular mechanism; 2. Research and development of new drugs; 3. Disease epidemiology, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
2. Research Team
There are research teams with reasonable structure. The average age of the team members is 40 and they are all full of courage for exploration and innovation. The institute is led by Prof.Chen Ceshi, who has been awarded the Distinguished Young Scholar supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Leading Talent of Young and Middle-aged in the Innovative Talents Promotion Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Yunling Scholar of Yunnan Province and Professional and Technological Talent with Outstanding Contributions in Yunnan Province. He also obtained Special Government Allowance from the State Council and has been enlisted in membership of Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. At present, the institute has 24 researchers, including 21 with doctorate degrees and 3 with master degrees. The research team has 8 researchers with senior professional titles, 12 with intermediate professional titles, 1 with junior professional title. The institute has1 Yunnan University Innovation Team,2 Kunming Medical University Science and Technology Innovation Teams.
3. Scientific Research Environment
Facing the national development needs and based on the abundant biological resources in Southwest China and Southeast Asia, the institute closely follows the guidance of Kunming Medical University to carry out basic and forward-looking scientific and technological innovation activities, and to build a technological supporting entity platform providing scientific and technological support and services for scientific research and laboratory development. The institute has a series of research platforms for basic experiments, mechanism studies, model building and new drug R&D. The institute has various equipment such as molecular imaging system, laser confocal microscope, automatic animal behavior recording system and flow cytometer, which meet the needs of research work of theinstitute. At present, the institute has a research area of 7,000 square meters. We welcome hospitals and institutions to cooperate with us and seek common development.
